JUNE IS ALZHEIMER'S & BRAIN AWARENESS MONTH

As June unfolds, we find ourselves amidst Alzheimer's Brain Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, supporting those affected, and advancing research towards ending this epidemic. Alzheimer's disease affects millions worldwide, impacting not only individuals diagnosed but also their families, caregivers, and communities.

Throughout this month, we stand united in our commitment to advocating for change. We believe in fostering understanding about Alzheimer's, recognizing the signs and symptoms, and promoting early detection. Education is our most potent tool, empowering individuals to seek help, access resources, and plan for the future.

However, awareness alone is not enough. We must also take action. By participating in fundraisers, volunteering with organizations, and engaging in community events, we contribute to vital research initiatives aimed at unraveling the mysteries of Alzheimer's and developing effective treatments.

Every effort, no matter how small, brings us closer to our shared goal of a world without Alzheimer's. Together, we can make a difference. Join us this June as we stand together in solidarity, showing our support for those affected by Alzheimer's and renewing our commitment to end this epidemic once and for all.

DIMENSIONS NEIGHBORHOOD

Supporting a Loved One with Dementia:

  1. Establish Routine: Create a daily schedule for activities such as meals, exercise, and leisure. Consistency helps provide a sense of security and reduces confusion.
  2. Practice Patience: Be patient and understanding during moments of forgetfulness or difficulty communicating. Use gentle reassurance and avoid rushing interactions.
  3. Ensure Safety: Remove potential hazards like loose rugs or clutter that could cause tripping. Install handrails in key areas and consider using safety locks on cabinets containing potentially harmful items.
  4. Stay Organized: Keep important documents, such as medical records and legal paperwork, in a designated place that is easily accessible. Use pill organizers to manage medications and ensure they are taken as prescribed.
  5. Seek Support: Reach out to local dementia support groups for guidance and encouragement. Consider respite care options to give yourself a break when needed. Willows Bend offers respite for both Assisted Living and Memory Care - know that we're here to offer assistance.

If you have any questions or feel like you could use some support, don't hesitate to contact us. We're dedicated to helping you and your loved one navigate the challenges of dementia with compassion and care.
